Our immersive outdoor learning environment allows campers to get dirty, make friends, and enjoy learning that always prioritizes fun! Campers will grow to better appreciate and respect the natural world through lessons about chickens, insects, compost, engineering and everything in-between!

Parents and prospective campers, see below for our Frequently Asked Questions.

Note that we have opportunities for teens aged 15 - 17 to join our team as junior educators during our summer camp. Click here to learn more.

FAQ

What are the dates for camp in 2024?

There are 2 weeks of spring camp from March 25th-April 5th. There are 8 weeks of summer camp from June 17th -August 9th. There is one week of fall camp from October 7th-October 11th.

Where is camp located?

All weeks of our camp are at our Urban Teaching Farm (1700 E 2nd Street in Reno).

How much does it cost?

Tuition starts at $245 for one camper for one week, and camp scholarships are available. We also have camp shirts available for purchase when you sign up. You can view the design here.

What ages can come to camp?

Ages 5 to 15 for spring and fall camp and 5 to 14 for summer camp. If you have a child(ren) that is entering Kindergarten in the fall, they can still come to summer camp! If your child is 15 or 16, consider having them apply for our Jr. Educator program.

Can I come see the farm before camp?

Sure! Just email info@urgc.org to set up a time. We will also have an open house the week before camp starts (time and date TBD).

What time does camp start and end?

Spring and fall camp drop off is at 8:30am and pick up is at 3:30pm. Summer camp drop off is at 7:30am and pick up is at 2:15pm. Extended hours are available in the fall and spring.

Can I request a group for my child(ren)?

We are unable to take special requests for the groups that children will be in. We will be creating groups that work for our staff and camp environment. They are mostly based on ages, so that our curriculum will meet the needs of each group. It is our hope, that kids who are friends will most likely be in the same group because they will be around the same age.

What should my child bring to camp?

They should dress to be outside all day and wear closed toed shoes. They need to bring a backpack with a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, two masks, a morning snack, and lunch. Please make sure to include an ice pack in their lunch because we do not have refrigeration available.

What week should I sign up for?

Every week of camp has a different theme, so you can sign your child(ren) up for one week they are interested in or all of them because Urban Roots is their favorite place to be!

What health and safety precautions are you taking?

We have a nurse on site every day and a regular cleaning schedule. Our staff is fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and we supply masks and rapid tests if needed. We require frequent hand washing of our staff and campers, and our camp has always been entirely outside!

How do I register for camp?

Register here.

What is the teacher to student ratio?

1:8

Will lunch be provided?

We are currently seeking funding to provide nutrient-dense lunches to all campers through Farm Fresh Catering this summer. Additionally, farm fresh veggies will be tasted and sometimes sent home! We will also be making delicious snacks with the campers every day!

It gets really hot in the summer, are they going to be outside all day?

Yes, they will be outside all day, but we start earlier and end before the hottest part of the day. We have sunscreen and water breaks built into our day, find shade as much as possible, and play water games almost every day to cool down.

What is your refund policy?

Other than the $30 non-refundable, non-transferrable deposit, camp payments are refundable up until 2 weeks prior to the start of the confirmed camp week/session.

What do I do if I want to cancel or switch the week I signed up for?

Please email us (info@urgc.org), to cancel or change your registration.
