Do you struggle to get your kids to try new foods? Do you wish they’d help out more in the kitchen? Is your child a star chef on the rise and just needs the right recipe to test?

Here are our top snacks from Farm Camps in 2024! These recipes are kid tested, and kid approved through daily cooking time during camp. When campers come to the kitchen, they put on their chef hat and take on a new role each day...
“head chef” - in charge of the daily recipe, guides sous chefs on what needs to be done
“sous chef”- chop and prep all needed ingredients for the recipe
“server”- preps and cleans tables and plates and serves food
“busser/cleaner” - gathers plates from tables and washes dishes, although *everyone washes their own plates
Honey Kale Salad
During Fall Camp we were able to use honey from our own bee hives for this recipe and boy was it delicious! Kids can help with massaging the kale with olive oil, grating the carrots and of course sprinkling cheese on top!

Cherry Tomato Glaze
This was a surprise favorite of our campers because tomatoes are sometimes a hard sell. You sauté them with sweet and salty balsamic vinegar and enjoy with crackers, pretzels or sliced cucumbers. Kids can slice the tomatoes and help stir the sauce on low heat until it caramelizes.

Veggie Musubi
Musubi is usually made with spam and a popular dish in Hawaii or Japan. For this recipe we used crunchy farm carrots and cucumbers and johnny jump ups (tiny pansy flowers) as a garnish. Kids love to help roll the nori sheets and learning a new cutting technique for carrots: Julienne.

Carrot Pesto
Carrots make a great alternative to basil for pesto and add a fun new color to your child’s plate. We also use sunflower seeds instead of pinenuts or cashews to keep common allergens out of the kitchen. Kids love peeling carrots and measuring lemon juice and spices. Go easy on the garlic is our best feedback from the campers.

Beans & Greens Quesadillas
This is a great recipe for adding fiber and a veggie to a kid ‘s classic quesadilla. We like using spinach, kale or Swiss chard for the greens and black beans as the protein, but feel free to mix it up and try different options. Kids love grating cheese, tearing greens with their hands or flipping the quesadillas.

Carrot Tomato Tacos
These tacos are a strange combination, but came out of a time when our educators needed to be super resourceful with what was in the fridge. Turns out, kids love anything when it’s topped with cheese! You can substitute any veggies your child likes here and let them flip and assemble the tortillas.
